Prevention Division

The Prevention Division is responsible for inspection services to help prevent fires and assure fire and life safety for the citizens within Fire District #1. This includes conducting fire prevention education and outreach services to schools, daycares, businesses, and many other groups.

Outdoor Burning

Outdoor burning opens in Chelan County October 1, 2009. During the open burning season, burning is not allowed in the city limits or urban growth area, unless you have an orchard and you are burning orchard prunings. The following are Department of Ecology rules for residential burning.

  • Burn only natural vegetation
  • Illegal materials: Paint, Cardboard, Tires, Pesticide Containers, Construction Debris, Dead Animals, Garbage, Asphalt, Plastic, Metals, Treated Wood, Paper, petroleum Products, and Demolition Debris.
  • Burn Barrels are not allowed
  • A person capable of extinguishing the fire must attend it at all times, and the fire must be extinguished before leaving it.
  • No fires within 50 feet of structures.
  • Burn pile must be no bigger than 4 feet by 4 feet by 3 feet and you may burn only one pile at a time.
  • No burning after dark
  • If the smoke from your fire is detrimental to the health of another person, causes damage to property or business or causes unreasonable interference (nuisance) with use and enjoyment of another person's property, you must extinguish your fire immediately.
  • You must extinguish your fire if an air quality episode or impaired air quality is declared.
  • You may not burn materials that have been hauled from another property.
  • If you do not own the property where you are conducting the burning, you must have the property owner's permission before starting the fire.
  • No fire is permitted within 500 feet of forest slash.

CPR / First Aid Classes

CPR / First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for the Community and Workplace

This class is for persons who do not work in the healthcare field but are occupationally required to, or desire to, have CPR knowledge and skills, such as emergency response teams in business and industry, school bus drivers, adult residential care personnel, child care workers, teachers, parents, babysitters and all others who would like to be certified in CPR.

We instruct Adult CPR, Adult First Aid, and Adult AED. Classes are held every fourth Saturday of the month except for November and December. If you are interested in attending our class please give us a call at (509) 662-4734 to reserve your space in the upcoming class. Cost is $10.00 for persons living or working within Fire District 1, or $25 per person for all others.
